There is no problem using stone in a shower, however you do need to be aware of, and be willing to do, the additional maintenance. Sealing the stone after installation is key and resealing it every year or two is best. The splitface stone should be cleaned with a stone cleaner (like Dupont Revitalizer that seals and cleans) and I would use a soft bristled scrub brush to keep anything from building up in the crevices.
