Painting my ugly brick house?
Comments (40)Tess, I hope I'm not too late with the following advice. Don't ever paint brick. Your house is a simple design, exterior wise. Paint wont fix it. What's missing is a designed garden. Even the simplest brick house can look like an inviting, lived in home when it has a structured garden surrounding it. For less than the price of paint, invest in a landscaper to design a garden that will soften and greatly enhance your homes street appeal ...and add many $ in value. Painted brick detracts from value and has to be repainted periodically, defeating the purpose of brick, which is, no maintenance. Besides, your house, painted white or cream as has been suggested here, would stand out in the street like a proverbial sore thumb. Trust me, landscape, starting at the street boundary and leave the bricks alone. Good luck....See MoreOutdoor shower in cold climate
Comments (20)An all weather outdoor shower is easily done by locating the mixing valve inside the house and use a coupling shaft to locate the handle on the outside. You must use a standard tub type lower faucet (with the pull up to activate the shower) to allow the system to drain out when the shower is done. You also have to make sure everything slopes in direction of the water flow. We live in Bancroft Ontario so winters are well below freezing and we have been showering outside for 3 winters. Only issue we have is the shower head will freeze so we typically remove it after a shower or shower without it on when really cold. The system has worked well and it helps that nothing special needs to be done by anyone. no inside valves to close etc. Just turn off tap and everything drains....See MoreWhat to do with this coffee table?
Comments (5)Alternatively, if you just want to get the water marks out of the wood: Set an iron to warm (not hot) and allow it to heat. Lay a cotton napkin or tee shirt over the water stain. Iron the stain through the cloth for 5-10 seconds, then remove the heat for 20-30 seconds. Repeat as necessary, buffing lightly with the cloth after every 2-3 heat cycles. A hair dryer may used instead of the iron. Set it to medium heat and hold 2-4 inches from the stain. Buff the stain with the napkin or tee shirt as you heat the wood....See MoreCoffee table...dark or light?
Comments (4)Try wood and glass. Consider hanging the mirror vertically and about 5" from the sideboard top. You could also move the table under the light fixture, change it out for a chandelier, and put the sideboard and mirror on the clock wall where the mirror could double the chandy which should hang 36" or less above the table top....See More- 6 years ago
