Boring house looking for ideas on how to update
Comments (32)Hi definitely remove the x bars on the deck balustrade. Landscape close to the house so it grounds the house. Trees will make it look less bare. Chose some that work for your area, that are evergreen, and are not going to grow really big. With a really plain house - dark colors will make it look better. Dark Grey, or black with a warm tone so it doesn't have a blue undertone in it. Make sure it is a warm grey or black. Use green foliage around it. Paint out the pergola in the dark grey too or white if you want a different look. Fill in the balustrade where the x is removed with plants in front of those areas. Grow a vine up the pergola that is nice....See MoreNeed ideas & advice for my Gardens - Mediterranean/Tuscan style
Comments (1)Looks like the palm tree look is working so I would blend that with some succulents maybe agave which can grow large and make great statement plants. Also stick with the stones....See MoreHelp us with our Exterior Front Entry!
Comments (4)Hi Rachael, Your asymmetrical house form is a very strong visual element and sits very well in this bold and rugged landscape. On the other side of the house from the entry door, the windows and doors are grouped and aligned to create a secondary relationship between them, which pleases the eye and works within the strong form. On the side with the entrance door, this doesn't happen. The scattered size and positioning of the woodstore, windows and doors do not work together to lead the eye to any particular place, nor do they relate to the form of the house. As a starting point, something to draw the eye to the entrance to invite people in will create a secondary focus. Because the house is a very strong form, you want to work with it or complement it, not try to create something that tries to outdo it. You also want something large enough to provide shelter both to keep people from the weather and to make it seem visually welcoming. You have a few materials already in this building, timber and stone, that you can use that will provide a contrast to the corrugate wall but will also make connections with the other parts of the building, and make the shelter become part of the whole rather than look like an afterthought. I would look at creating a porch form with enough visual strength to draw the eye and also try to tie in a few other elements to reduce the scattered look....See MoreHelp choosing Dulux exterior paint colour
Comments (0)Hi all ! New to this forum so any help would be appreciated House is only around 10 years old but we are going to repaint Half the house is weatherboard , and half plaster (as per photos) We are wanting to go with greys , we are thinking darker grey weather board and lighter plaster ? The aluminium joinery is a light grey (almost exact to Dulux Timeless grey) We are struggling to get the right theme or idea on what we should do We were thinking Dulux Taihape for weather board , but unsure what to do with the plaster.. Ideas or opinions much appreciated ! (Sorry about quality of photos , I ran outside in the rain just to post this)...See MoreRobert Spiers
