In this situation, the Owners had four young children, pets and liked to entertain informally. There is either a child, dog, good friend or combination thereof occupying the window seat at any given time. It really comes down to whether it compromises your effective work space and how you intend/wish to use the space. It's no fun to be slaving away in the kitchen listening to your "you don't want a window seat" friends laughing and drinking wine in the other room....
This detail can also be a great solution if you have an existing window sill below counter height. My suggestion is to make sure your design is meeting your needs well and if you have the right space for this detail- go for it!
