Hi, I know there are so many things to take into account and it's hard to get perspective from a photo. The white you can see is an extension with building paper, and the red is the existing building which is two story. The exterior is wide weatherboard planking, the windows are silver aluminium with very little trim. The doors in the front of the picture are French doors from bedrooms that will open to an enclosed courtyard ( yet to be built of course) The roof will be a light grey/brown but you won't see it much because of the flat roof style. There will be decking and ballustrades covering half of the new extension.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will definitely try to attach rounded tiles where I can to make it more Spanish. Also love the idea of attaching Spanish style tiles to fronts of steps etc. I will definitely do bright contrasting front door, and I really like the window flowers idea to break up all the walls. Landscaping is my strength, so got that sorted, and will begin that first. There is too much focus currently on parking spaces, and not enough on outdoor living. What do you guys think of this colour. I am happy to paint over the aluminium windows with whatever colour would suit best. Thanks very much.

Are there any rules to follow regarding choosing exterior colours, ie, someone once told me that there should never be more than three colours, regarding the roof, walls and trims. Building a modern monoplane roof house on the coast. Like the idea of either Gull Grey or New Denim Blue for the metal roof. The interior pallette will be whites, inky navy, greys. Drawn towards grey for the weatherboard walls or white, prefer a black door. Although this is a modern house we are trying to inject a bit of modern farmhouse decor inside. Any help appreciated, thanks
