I’ve gone to and fro with the pic. You def need a large rug in the lounge area. Take the table cloth off and replace with white white vase/pots of greenery - not too small. Your map artwork is a good size but it’s not right for where it is. Your light accessories on the couch aren’t working. The room doesn’t have a lot of light so work with the darkness. Would you consider dark sea green and sea blue as your accent colours. They would work with the couch and the wood and even the fish tank.

A rug like this and then use the colours within to add cushions.

I’d look for artwork in these tones.

A tray of pretties on the coffee table is easily removable when needed.

Blue is complementary to brown. Or try orange for that high impact

Find another place for that Australia map. It is too pale for the room. Agree with colouring mentioned in the other posts.

What do you think of these pieces? I was going to go back for some but the shops shut.

I love the kid and the cushions. The rug is on the small side. It’s a great colour and looks fab but is it too late to change for a bigger one.
With the accessories I’d stay away from coloured glass and super shiny, it’s not really your look. I like the items in the second and third pick. The vases in the separate post don’t do anything for me. Don’t be in too much of a rush to finish the room, the best rooms evolve. Have you thought of any plants?

Ideally rug should be big enough to go under front of couches. Blue has brightened area up. Do u like it?

Yeah, I like it's. It's not as big as I'd like but discussing with Mum (who has lots of cool floor rugs), she said they come in standard sizes and I would be hard pressed to find one for the ideal square area. If I went for a larger rectangle, I'd get a lot of excess to one size or cut it down myself (scary).

Imagine those ( presumably new ) blue cushions in orange -- a really bright orange ( because a mid orange or apricot , in taffetta haha , with that couch , would look 70's ! ) .

Probably just me , but I always think of 'traditional' blues like what you've used , as being colder than orange , and you want a room to be warm and inviting . Any shade of orange in a rug would warm it too obviously . A swirly pattern like the blue rug , but in mid-orange , or even apricot , with beiges and light browns would look good , but I also think 'just' an orange shaggy rug would have the same effect too .

These are the pots and plants I bought today. Usually they'd sit on the TV cabinet but I put the closer to the window for the light tomorrow morning.

Oh , and if you changed the map for an abstract picture or print , with lots of orange and pastel orange and a bit of red and deep blue and yellow and so-on would tie in the rest of the room , as well as bringing out the natural timber colours and the black chairs too . Maybe its because I don't like blue too much , but black takes the shine off blue too IMO -- black and orange done well looks great , but I accept it can look bad too .

If you’re happy with the rug then go for it. I have a 2x3m in a similar space with one side well under the couch. The plants are gorgeous. I did notice them next to the tv after I posted. They look good as a cluster. You could centre them as your table centre.

Would a couple of lamps help? Their bases could add the sorts of colours you’ve enjoyed in the ceramics, plus soften the lighting a little.

You could add a burnt orange feature cushion to contrast with the blue, add a splash of colour in wall art and throw

I’m not a fan of orange, I prefer the blues you’ve chosen. You need to repeat some of the colours from the lounge area in the dining area. So blue vases/decor on the table. Two big pieces of art that are related - one in each area would provide a link.

I'm not a huge fan of the orange either but I do agree the blue is too insipd next to that taupe. Try coral pink for a bright accent that would work with both the blue and the couch.

I disagree: one of my best rooms Ive done is in orange as dominant colour and it looks amazing if done right. I have a lot of wood and popped in navy as well. Orange comes in many shades

Hi - I think you need to re-jig some furniture placement to pull in the areas eg move the dresser/buffet to tie in with dining area; or alternatively have the aquarium against return wall of the dining area - this should be done before looking at accessories (love adding blue and orange touches though). PS -I have the same super comfortable couch. Can you draw a plan view and upload?

If you are up for painting- I think that the grey is cold, drab and dated, and a warm, but bright white (not too cream) would brighten things up and go much better with your blue and brown. Different window treatments would be nice too.

Blue vs orange is personal taste and as you've already purchased blue, then stick with that. Agree some blue needs to be repeated in the dining area.

bigreader has had some excellent tips. The rug you've chosen is lovely, but you definitely need a bigger size. A larger rectangle size might have more underneath the couch. You can check out online options.

The blue is fantastic, once you have that repeated around both areas your room will have much better flow.

One other thing to think about when you are ready to change your lounge is to get something with a lower back (same with dining chair), these help a more visual flow than high back chairs.
