Get it done professionally and painted same colour as gate. Probable some metal sheeting. Depends on how you gate is designed as to how you can attach something at back. I have seen some poorly painted examples where the paint on the sheet peels off and they can’t maintain it. So powder coating rather than painting may be the way to go.
in the short term a properly sewn Shade cloth screen attached neatly would create privacy while not being a solid screen..check local shade sail makers for a quote
No need for battens. Just have an upholsterer put eyelets around the shade cloth edge, and attach to gate with marine rope. Pull it taught and it will last for a good many years.
You may be able to attach pvc panels to the gate. Maybe a similar design to the existing white fencing. Depending on weight of panels and how much room you have for gate when opening against existing fencing.
