Too tidy with no design in our living room
Comments (43)Now it's beginning to work! Luv the rug! A few more red showstoppers, and I luv the post about matting your family pic, and larger frame for it. Looks like you might be a bit uncomfortable with the great post idea of moving your sofa out into the room away from wall. If so, could you accept putting it diagonally from the entrance doorway, across that corner where it is, stopping at the edge of your window? That's a bit of a move outward, still can see the fp and tv, and show off your new rug, which could go diagonally in front of the sofa. Then, if you like that, after a while you could move it on out as Deb K suggests. Sometimes intermediate steps are more doable for us than those big changes.Same with painting; if you could first paint just the fp wall, then later paint other walls...seems some color would really make it more homey. Would you cosider a quite contemporary fixture for the light in the center ceiling? Maybe a bit of red could go there!...See MoreHow to decorate around ugly blue and beige tiles in a rental?
Comments (28)Thanks all - our belongings arrive this week so I will have a go at transforming the space with what we have then search for new things to add. We have quite a bit of art with strong yellow colors and also a Tibetian Chest with yellows and greens. Thanks again!...See MoreNeed help with living room colors please
Comments (5)For the fireplace inserts go ahead and do the green order a second set of panels that you store that are more neutral. In 10 years or five years you may not like the green anymore. It's possible you won't have access to different colored panels at that time. As for the color I like the ideas of going into those silvers it would coordinate very well with your blue couch and it will pull the blues out of the curtain panels. For the wall coloring use the warm golden color in the drape. There is one piece of the flower that has this color and it will balance the weight of a dark couch. If your room is small don't go too dark in this color. You could use it on the main wall and pick two shades lighter on the other three walls....See MoreBlack leather sofa...beachy?
Comments (17)Congratulations on your new home! Now, go cancel that order! Just kidding. Kind of... I really do think, after reading your posts, that you will be happier with the grey couches. Personally, black couches in general seem very bachelor pad (ish). That said, I know there are gorgeous black leather couches available. For a super modern industrial place, maybe. But beach, or that kind of vibe? I am not sure how you would pull that off over the years. Grey or tan (neither are my own favorite decorating colors, but still) would be oh so much better as a neutral for pulling in different color palettes with pillows and art, etc. if you decide to change up through the years... black might make you feel stuck. After reading through what I have written it seems a bit funny, as black is my personal neutral in clothing, jewelry and the like. But as I look around my home there is no black to be seen. Hmmm. In any event, follow your own intuition here, and don't feel like you have to fill the space before your home is even completed. Especially if you are having second thoughts. And remember, this is supposed to be fun for you! When in doubt, leave it out! At least for the time being....See MoreKruti Amin
