What would be the 3 main features of a Hamptons style house ?

Hi there and thankyou for the comments. Yes Scottevie we have a great view from the back hence windows but I'm thinking we should maybe still do a lot of viewing space but have three spaced across or something.

Bigreader - I feel that the house (black/white plans) windows don't really suit hamptons. The 3d front and rear view only confirm my thoughts. I'm just seeking ideas for changes or improvements - ie different shape or style of window or gable details/ finials or eave returns / window or door trims. Or just some ideas on colours. I'm not sure that that is any simpler. I just don't like the facade at the rear at the moment. regards

so... hope this isn't a silly question, maybe I missed something. is the house already built or are these the concept designs? it's hard to make a house something its not, if it's not built yet could you maybe find a design more to your taste? Sometimes it's a case of a similar plan and layout from a builder but they vary the materials, cladding the portico to give it a different feel. usually all the houses in the estate are basically the same, but with slight variations.
On the other hand, if the house is already there, then actually I would suggest focussing on the interior to get the hamptons feel, as actually that's what your going to look at the most and empty boxes (ie rooms) are easier to change the style of.

now as for the hamptons look... from memory it was a riff off the french provinical style back in the day, adding french provincial touches and prestige look to local timber cottages. So I think definitely timber cladding, avoid the concrete pillars as much as possible and I think change the windows. a much more traditional timber window and french doors rather than sliders.

Large windows can be annoying.

1. Can let in too much sun depending on aspect, and heat out,
2. If to floor can add to deterioration of floor
3. Let the mess at floor level be seen from outside.
   4 may not provide enough wall space to draw back drapes to maximise the view and hence limit impact or limit window covering options
   5 add to costs.
   6 impact loom externally, which seems to be the case from the images of the back.

the garage is also something that takes away from that look, could you have it more open as a carport, or a slatted gate on it or something?

I suggest getting to know the style, and noticing what features in particular are common. It's funny, sometimes I see houses and they are obviously hamptons, traditional but relaxed , with lots of white and quality fabrics. But othertimes what is labelled hamptons... well it kinda isn't. It's just lots of white with up-to-date fixtures. And sometimes, dare I say!, it's synonymous with pretention and prestige. maybe that's why it appeals, because in the hamptons people had their summer homes and wanted it more relaxed, so for australians it gives a bit of class and elegance but doesn't feel too posh

Who designed the home and are you in ADL, There's a young couple from the Block from QLD who featured on a TV program, I can't remember their name at the moment but they did beautiful Hamptons style Houses

But I think if you really look at most houses inThe hamptons the rear would look nothing like the front as they extend and use differently
