Do I have enough space to change the ensuite layout?
Dear all, as part of a larger renovation I would like to change the layout of an existing ensuite to a more contemporary layout. In the photo is the existing layout and the proposed layout. I 'm mainly worried about whether the toilet and vanity will be a bit cramped I'm thinking I need at least 1 m or 1.2 m for the shower depth. I also attach one of my inspiration photos ( I obviously won't have a bath).I appreciate any thoughts on whether the space is big enough. Thanks.

last yearIf you do the maths with the length of the room. Allow, 900mm for doorway, 800mm for vanity, 750mm for toilet and 1000mm for shower. = 3450mm. You will have enough room for your proposed design.

1940's NZ kitchen - small, awkward-ish layout.
Comments (121)I would suggest you take out the cabinet that is to the right of the stove and use it elsewhere in the house -- perhaps in the bathroom or dining room with a hutch above it. Then, I would suggest you have someone install a lazy susan cabinet in the corner between the sink counter and the stove, meaning you would move the stove down a bit and have a small cabinet/counter top to the right of the stove. I would suggest you have the cabinets refinished in white and then paint the walls a pastel you like. If you would prefer white walls, then add white-painted crown molding and paint the ceiling a light neutral blue, such as Sherwin Williams Niagara Falls Blue. Then, I would suggest you choose a favorite accent color and use this sparingly in accessories like towels, pot holders, small vases or floral arrangements, and a valence above the triple windows. For a genuine 1940s look, you might have white ceramic square tiles with a rectangular red border installed as a back splash behind and above the stove. If you are replacing counter tops, I would suggest a light color such as white with a beige or light grey vein or striation for some sort of pattern. It sounds like I'm being outvoted on the shared ensuite idea. :) We've actually been set on both the configurations you suggested, we moved away from yours houssaon because we really wanted to keep a closed off office space (and hubby built the front deck and landing already for the door at the end of the hallway!). And I don't know why we shifted the door on the bedroom back to the same area, I think it was about having easy access to all the kids bedrooms. But maybe we should shift it back as you suggest rinqreation. Joice, the door at the end of the hallway is the front door, the entrance closest to the street, that you would come to first if you were a visitor. Not totally necessary, but we reinstated it before we decided we wanted the entrance up the stairs (middle bottom) which would be under a carport. Thanks for all your input!! Comments (5)Provided there is 1200mm clear between the breakfast bar and the opposite bench then by rights, you should have ample room and if that's the case, I think I would opt for the design with the kitchen on the eastern side. My reason; you get a much greater feeling of open plan by having the dining and lounge on the North/South plane. I like the large WIP in this one - on paper at least. The second plan somehow feels wrong. I personally don't like the idea of having the breakfast bar being located in the lounge. If it were me though, I would ask for a 3D CAD plan of both kitchens [to walk through on the computer] before making up my mind on which one to opt for as it gives you a much clearer vision of what the finished kitchen will be like rather than looking at a flat plan....See More

last yearNot sure how far along you are with your Reno's but suggest the following moving the Door into the ensuite, this would eliminate the passage way created by both doors which is wasted space.
The door into the courtyard forming part of the 1670 x 1000 shower would be metal & glass, with the glass being able to change to give privacy when wanted. I have shown the door opening out to give more space but it could be either, This will give you a long 1670 floating Vanity as well
