Yes definately match the grout with with the tile. So the tile we are thinking is actually the navy one at the bottom so we'll do a dark grout.

As grout is a pain to clean I wouldn’t do it in a shower

Kate could not agree more, hate the idea of cleaning all that grout! We have large format white marble tiles around wet ares and floor. This will just be for above vanity. Do you think it will look ok?

I think it’s overkill and quite busy to use them as you’re suggesting. I’d use the tiles as they’ve been designed.

hmmm, was scared someone would say that. I was hoping with the matching colour grout it would look great without being too busy.

I kind of like your creativity but agree that it will be too busy. I worry that in vanity area it won't create a relaxing space.

Yes I agree they are beautiful. I have a main bathroom, an ensuite and two powder rooms I will be using them in (along with larger format tiles around wet areas/floor) but just thought for something different might be interesting to mix it up with herringboning them. Still trying to decide if I risk it in the ensuite. Decisions decisions...

You need to consider the whole look. Based on the information you’ve give you’re planning on using the tiles with a dark grout. Id be concerned that this is already a bit heavy for the rest of your marble look tiles (depending on the rest of your selections and lighting). Adding a complex pattern to a dark colour tile with a dark grout def has the possibility of being too heavy for the room. Decide if you want the herringbone pattern (and there’s some lovely marble look finger size tiles available in a herringbone) or the dark blue finger tiles in the upright pattern. Don’t over complicate spaces. Maybe if you really loved the idea enough to live with it for house eternity you wouldn’t have posted here for opinions.

It will look too busy, its like when people bedazzle the ish out of their house with crystal chandelares, art on the wall, bowls and candlesticks over every surface of their home. Kit kat tiles give you the "extra" without being extra. Perfect balance, simplicity with dimension.

Interesting and appealing idea that I think would work, if everything else in your room was ultra low key. Having reached the living in it but still have quite a few finishing off bits to go stage, I well know the ‘gee I love that, but does it fit the overall look’ dilemma. Sometimes you’ve got to let it go, and sometime you just want to go for it. Listen to everyone’s thoughts, but in the end it’s your space. Perhaps checking the cost with your tiler might be a swing point, as I’d expect the laying cost might be higher

Thanks everyone. Appreciate the feedback. Will keep thinking about this as I’m struggling to let go of the idea but cost may be the deciding factor. Rest of room is very low key - very white not very veiny marble tiles everywhere else, white plain vanity and benchtop so thought it might be ok.

If you really love it then go for it. You're the one who is living there and it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Yes, it will be a bit busy but so what, if that's what you want and it makes you happy every time you see it then that's what having a home is all about. We don't live in display homes, add your personal touches to give your house a soul and make it truly yours.

I think your brave and it will look good. If it doesn’t then just retile it when you have funds.
