Before & After: A front entry and lounge

When we first saw this front room, it was having an identity crisis… was it an office, yoga room or store room? What it didn’t have was a sense of welcoming you home. This chaos is what you saw as soon as you arrived through the front door.

We met with our client to work out how they live in the house, what spaces we had to work with and how we can adapt the rooms, so they function well, all while looking stylish, particularly the front room.

Very quickly we learnt that the dining room had never been used to dine at and that our clients had no intention of retaining it as a dining space. There was an under used spare room upstairs that could function as a home office and still have room for a sofa bed when needed as the occasional guest room, so it was easy to move the workstation upstairs. We also learnt that while yoga is a great passion, stretching into the downward dog beside the front door was not ideal.

Upstairs on the landing area we found an under used living room with a sofa that was over sized for the space and made the area difficult to use. We decided to replace the existing sofa with a much smaller sofa that was more inviting for the room and also left plenty of room for yoga at home and out of site from the front door!

To the front room, our clients wanted a beautiful living area and a space that has a sense of arrival from the front door. We designed custom shoe cabinetry as a bench seat along the entry area, under the beautiful windows to tidy up the shoe drop zone.

We had furniture made to create a comfortable living space that spilled into the former dining area. This space we had a large buffet made as extra storage and a beautiful image of Florence framed as a focal point and to bring all the colours in the room together.
