help with lounge room redesign

Hi all,

We’re starting again with our lounge room. Having an ongoing argument with the other half about where the tv should go. I want it mounted on the brick wall to the left and a modular couch against the window, no coffee table and just a rug. He wants the new tv where the windows are as he doesn’t want to look at a brick wall. I argue that he’s looking at a tv not the wall! We can’t put a decent sized modular for a family of 4 against the brick wall as it comes too close to the stairs. Please help! We’re hopeless with interior decorating and making a decision. Good old 70s houses. We run into a problem with everything we want to do in this house. 😩

This idea shows a chaise lounge with two arm chairs or you could just have a single lounge with an extra chair between the lounge and dining. Love your retro window and I agree it's important to keep the fireplace as they are a loved feature if you were to sell.. I think this would open up the space to allow the kids to navigate around the furniture

I think you are on the right track with your ideas, mount tv on wall, you could possibly use your existing cabinet but you may need to check if it will fit that space, a modular unit in front of window, a gorgeous rug, and think of a arch mirror for above fireplace , this will lighten the room beautifully.

Thank you so much! I want to get rid of the cabinet, it’s terrible. Happy with none under the tv if we can get away with it. How do I convince the other half about the tv is best on the wall! 😂😂

Thanks for the advice, have decided to ditch the brown and go for something lighter and brighter...maybe next month I will look at replacing the pathetic prints on the walls and the grubby coffee table...

Your space is quite roomy at almost 23 feet by 16 feet 5 inches. It would help us to see all four walls. Is this going to be an area where you will eat as well as watch TV? I would put in some recessed lighting: (I like the idea of painting the ceiling a light blue or yellow.) You need to have table lamps and or floor lamps as well. If those are light fixtures on the beam, I would remove them and repair the beam. Would you husband be open to staining the beams darker? Something like this: A fireplace mantel like the one in the Crisp photo would finish off the fireplace. With yellow and cream, you could go with warm colors, browns reds and oranges or blues and green.

hi, I have been working on the same type of project for my teen recently and from my perspective the room need color. like what you could do is add colored pillows like to the white couch add two colored pillows and for the red add colors that go nice with red, and another suggestions would be to add curtains to the room. also you could add colored rugs but the thing about adding color to the room is you have to make sure it looks good together! good luck

You could have a small shelf below the tv, tell him too highlight the wall with backlit led’s, he could create a fabulous look(tell him what a wonderful idea he has) lol, crate and barrel, fat shack have great lights, good luck .

Why would you put the tv on the large wall, therefore turning all the chairs away from the view out the window.? Is this where people sit when they are visiting or where you sit for family conversations? I would at least put the tv in the corner next to fire place or even above fireplace.

We thought about the above the fireplace but it’s too high. I feel like the corner wouldn’t work, it would look out of place. We have our Round dining table further at the end of the room where we can face the view and the windows run all the way along

Do you love and use the fireplace? If not it’s taking up valuable real estate and the room would be more accommodating without it.

Do you have a floorplan you can post. Personally I don't like TV's in front of windows, apart from weekends TV's are mostly watched during the evening, If you moved the TV to the Brick wall with a narrow low wall unit, you may need to add window covering for day time viewing to avoid any glare.

I could see your room with an armchair either side of the fireplace with a lounge in front of the window and perhaps removing the one across the room to open up the space between the lounge/dining. A floorplan would give a better idea of what might fit. Is that a window to the left of the fireplace or an opening to the front entrance.?

If hubby doesn’t like looking at it he brick wall you could always add a batten feature, they come in pre made panels and can be purchased at Bunnings or online. Could compliment the mantle.
