How to remove tile adhesive from floorboards

Hi, we are currently ripping out floor tiles in our kitchen which have polished hardwood flooring underneath. The previous owners didnt put in the cement sheet before tiling which has made the job of removing tiles harder. can anyone suggest a quicker solution in removing the tile adhesive that wont damage the floor? we have been chiseling it out with turpetine and hot water to soften the adhesive. Thanks
