What brand of cooktop is it as it will have installation details with it or online

Important to check with your cabinet maker, personally I prefer the cooktop in a single cabinet, which I think would be 900 with 300 each side = 1500?

There’s a thread here somewhere where a warranty repair was refused due to incorrect installation. I’d download the specs for the cooktop and specifically talk installation to the cabinet maker. Don’t assume anything.

Yes, at the moment I'm thinking 300 drawer in the left for oils/spices and 300 on the right giving access to the corner cabinet.

It's an older model, gk56 Tim'tims part of me wants to go back to 750 or 800 cooktop now that we are looking at this shape kitchen s.

stay with the 900 cooktop it will work, do you have a copy of the Specs for your model to show the cabinet maker and your electrician. he will know what is needed even if it has to be ducted out through the kick board

I hope you can see my hand drawn lines. Arms of the U are 2100, the sink is 3165. Peninsula is 900 with cabinetry on both sides (we don't need to sit.) Along the bottom there a charging station/open shelving, fridge cavity, stairs, row of wall ovens/pantry/storage. Will probably have two 750 drawer sets on the inside of Peninsula, 4 equal cabinets on the outside. Oven cabinet is 1400 high. Just wondered if we should round off the last cabinet in the peninsula and turn into shelving. Nothing locked in yet, so we have options ...

Induction cooktops can generate lots of heat. Important to install as per manufacturers installation plan. This should not be difficult to achieve

The left hand corner cabinet 900 x 600 with 2 x 300 doors is a small opening for that cabinet and could be improved being large with 2 x 400 if you had the space. The other corner is a blind corner cabinet which you can adjust size to also allow for better access, I say this because there is limited storage within the U shaped kitchen. I might add that you should be aware with this cabinet and DW opening out beside it to think of door handle size and perhaps a filler my be needed to work with this cheers

Thanks Siriuskey. When i see the floorplan like this it also looks tiny 😬 I don't think the wall to dining is brick, but I'm not sure hubby is keen to do major wall moving. Since we have views to the bush in the meals area, we are hoping to use that as our main dining space after the kitchen is done, hence why we've tried to make that space bigger.

We will either have a handleless or recessed handle kitchen - neither of us are keen for protruding bits and pieces. I'm not a huge fan of sharknose, particularly because of the extra space that is lost with each drawer, so either a J pull or other routed style. Hopefully that means the dishwasher opening won't be as much of a problem.

I've thought about making the peninsula narrower - 750 or 800 - as I'm a little concerned about the mass of cabinetry we'll be staring at as we come down the stairs. I also wonder if the extra 100/150 inside the U shape will be beneficial. What do you think? I guess we'll lose some storage on the outside.. (in your drawing you've allowed 800 for sink but I think we can only do 750)

I was also planning to access the blind corner cabinet from the other side of the peninsula, to allow two sets of drawers on the inside working space for better functionality.

There will be a lot of extra storage to the right of the stairs as you walk down. We'll put the ovens (full+ compact) and microwave there and have either a "pantry" unit or shelving. It will be 1400 high. I'm still working on the most functional/aesthetically pleasing layout for that. There will also be done storage next to the fridge, though only 300 deep.

This is the existing floor plan from your oct 2022 post. Relocating the external door is the key to opening up the space constraint but requires expenditure to change steps too.

Kate, I think you have just answered one of the mysteries of the current kitchen. The previous owners told us that the island is moveable (but they lay floating floors around it so it became fixed). I've always thought this is very smart, and I love that it looks like a fixed island, not one on wheels. (Can this be replicated?! It would solve so much!)

The kitchen was renovated by an owner earlier again. Perhaps they planned for the island to be a peninsula to make a more workable kitchen. The cabinetry is built with 3 doors opening on one side and the 4th opens on the other. This would have allowed all of the doors to open when placed as a U, but blocked off the external door. So by making it moveable they still had external access when they needed it.

Anyway, I can see how moving or removing that doorway can increase the kitchen size without impacting too much on the meals/dining area. Will talk to my husband about it.
