Renovating Design Dilemma Kitchens

Can anyone share examples of kitchens designed around jutt out windows

I have been racking my brain for a cost effective way to renovate my kitchen. It is a ranch style brick home with the bay style window (but juts out in the shape of half a hexagon. ie. instead of having a box shape, the two sides are angled like in a hexagon). I think a lot of brick homes were done in this style in the 1980's, but I can't seem to find any pictures of modern kitchens that have been done in homes such as this.....neither where they have incorporated the hexagon shape window jutt out into the kitchen design or where they have designed the kitchen, and ignored the jutt out window. In my kitchen at the moment, the double sink and dishwasher sits under the window , with the stove sitting on one side where the window angles in one one side and just the bench and cupboard underneath on the other side where the window and wall angles in.

It’s not widely used in Australia , its a shame really because it can look quite beautiful.

It’s called a “bay window”. A home called “ ranch styled” is a very American terminology. I would just say it’s a typical normal 1980 single storey brick home…with bay windows. Google “ kitchen bay window renovations” for inspiration

Thanks dreamer. Yes, i got the ranch house style by looking modern farmhouse (USA) and trying to find similar styles...... :o) ... Yes, I couldnt find an AUS name for this places....it has a room upstairs in the cathedral ceiling but yes, is just a 1980s Aus brick home. Thanks for the googling advice!!!!

This is a really awkward space! What about trying to build a unit into the corner which seems to be dead space. This could house the television and other bits like dvr,amp etc. The unit could then extend out towards the door in length and in height either up to the start of the window or up to the start of the blinds. I would suggest drawers for toy storage and books above. In this way you leave the windows clear for light plus it looks like you have a pull down screen so the tv would be out of the way of that. This arrangement would also hide all those wires and cables! Ikea have some good examples of storage which you could adapt or copy, such as Besta which illustrates the extended toy storage. http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S39927155/

Thanks houssaon and rinqreation! Funny - hubby has the same 2 door hate! It sounds like I'm being outvoted on the shared ensuite idea. :) We've actually been set on both the configurations you suggested, we moved away from yours houssaon because we really wanted to keep a closed off office space (and hubby built the front deck and landing already for the door at the end of the hallway!). And I don't know why we shifted the door on the bedroom back to the same area, I think it was about having easy access to all the kids bedrooms. But maybe we should shift it back as you suggest rinqreation. Joice, the door at the end of the hallway is the front door, the entrance closest to the street, that you would come to first if you were a visitor. Not totally necessary, but we reinstated it before we decided we wanted the entrance up the stairs (middle bottom) which would be under a carport. Thanks for all your input!! It's really helpful to have some unattached opinions. I'm keen to hear from anyone else on the shared ensuite or 2 door hate question! :)

I agree with emily. if you want leave connections and/or a little extra room for what you don't want, but feel you may need for resale. I think the tub is a pretty important item. wet room not at all, and shower is give or take. i would prefer a big shower and a tub for soaking in, but I have always had the combo. I remember my mom built during big wet bar craze, she did not care for one. had space built, capped off connections and use as a closet. Now it is 35 years later, everyone wants to buy and tear down. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. i agree, I would also really like the separate toilet, we are not share everything people.

YES! Thanks everyone. The only differences in the kitchen now is that the bench on the far end of bottom photo, no longer has the raised section above it. It was a brick wall that I have removed. The doors on the pantry are still in the timber look but all the other timber has been painted in snowy mountain quarter white including the ceilings. I havent painted any of the beams yet.
