How to deal with Herringbone flooring and steps and the gap??

Hi all.

i have recently renovated my place and have had engineered wood herringbone flooring installed.

i attach pictures.

my house has two steps one to go into the kitchen and the other to go into the lounge room.

the floor person who installed the flooring is having some difficulties with the steps. in particular, how to deal with the nose of the stairs and how to cover the gap betwen the step and the floor.

We got some extra pieces of the floorboards and got them custom made to create a stair nose like the picture attached.

my floor person is concerned that installing these to the step will be problematic as they are straight and will be uneven when they are put together with the herringbone because they are triangular and will be uneven.

does anyone have any suggestions on how to cover the gap? will the floor nose work noting the floor leveo is herringbone.

any suggestions are welcome!

For your planting advice, I suggest you call Merrifield Garden Center to see if they will come out your way. They currently have wonderful garden centers in Merrifield and Fairfax (both in Fairfax County) and a new one in Gainesville, but they may come further south to wherever you reside. (www.MerrifieldGardenCenter.com) Even if they don't send designers to your area, they are worth a trip to see their huge selection for a day of pleasure and inspiration, or to pick up some plants. I understand wanting to keep the views from as many rooms as possible. However, how much time is spent in the bedrooms? And is the view visible the majority of time one spends in the bedroom? Consider that the most restful, secure sleep is obtained when the bed is placed opposite the entry door. That is not possible in any of your current bedroom layouts. Perhaps you should consider single solid glass French doors or windows flanking the beds opposite the doors rather than the large windows you show on the plan. Choice of doors or windows would be based on accessibility to a deck. I assume bedroom 1 and the office/bedroom have built-in bunk beds. I think the deck between the family and bedroom 3 seems inaccessible and a bit of a waste, and I wonder how one gets outside from the kitchen with the trash, etc. Do you have no plans to garage the vehicles?

An entire wall of built-in cabinets and hooks and cubbies for your crafting stuff (and perhaps filing-type stuff and printer for the office). Take a good look at what you have and think about how best to organize and store it and what could be displayed to be pretty and what should be hidden behind curtains or doors. A fold down ironing board on a wall or back of a door somewhere would be great. A nice desk and filing cabinet for the office side... or perhaps a great big table in the middle under the window, wide enough to function for both of you facing each other? A nice curtain rod would make a big difference too. Preferably just about floor to ceiling. I'd put a splash of colour on the walls and keep the curtains simple, but you could go vice-versa too. A very simple layout keeping the floor space within the kitchen, the WIP takes up a lot of space with not much gain, The broom cupboard could be moved to the Laundry/entrance, narrow. If the wall has been bumped out to the eaves on the deck side giving an extra 300 depth to the kitchen you could make the island 2700 x 1200 and all drawers. The wall of narrow pantry will hold all pantry needs and more, no deep cupboards to dig into. cheers
