You would have to be totally aware of the space available in your small hallway. I would recommend measuring the space correctly and allowing enough room for people walking past console and more than one person gathering in hall when arriving at your home. Plus the fact the the front door also opens onto wall. I would recommend nothing deeper than 400-450mm, and then whatever the available length is. An open console not a buffet. Brushed nickel would look okay if that’s want you want. Are you keeping the orange colour on the floors or re staining to a different colour?

@Jill I will definitely measure before buying any furniture - good point about having open shelves rather than a buffet with doors. Do you have any thoughts on the light fixture? I was thinking brass legs would be better than brushed nickel to tie in with it. What do you think? Yes I will be restaining the floor to a lighter more natural tone in the coming months.

I think a pendant light could give more of an impact in that area, something with a brushed nickel accent, also dreamers idea of a narrow console would look great, feature artwork to tie in with the brushed nickel would look beautiful. It really just depends on what style you are using throughout your home.

Why are you having a brass light fitting, when you mentioned you wanted to tie in with brushed nickel? The light fixture comes in nickel colour as well. I thought you meant the light fitting to be brushed nickel. Therefore I have posted a brushed nickel console. As Julie Herbert said, it depends on what you are doing in the rest of the home.

Julie, i was thinking a flush mount light fitting would be more suitable as we have 8 foot ceilings. I feel like pendant lights work better with high ceilings especially in an entryway. Our main bedroom has bronze hardware on the wardrobe doors to tie in with a table lamp and ceiling light fitting in the room. I will be adding brass accents to our second bedroom which we use as a study including a new light fitting. The renovated laundry will likely have brushed nickel hardware.

Dreamer, I just prefer the look of that light fitting in brass rather than brushed nickel but happy to consider other options.

Where would you position the wall lighting in the hallway? Would you keep the ceiling light? Have you compared the strength of the wall lighting to an overhead light. In my opinion a hallway needs good strength overhead lighting.

Yes good overhead lighting adds warmth to the entrance, but I do love the look of these wall lights also.

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn’t think of wall lighting. That might be a nice touch to add to the part of the hallway near the bedroom doors.

I’m confused……..the flush Mount light you have posted in original post is a wall light NOT a ceiling light. That is why I am asking where you would position it on your wall and why we have questioned why you are not doing a ceiling light…..??

Yes you are correct, the other link does not state ceiling light. The photo looks like a flush mount wall light. must be just the way they have taken the photo, only half the light is showing. So okay go with the ceiling light and a narrow console.

I like the light fitting but I’m unsure if it works with the house. Do you think it looks ok with the style of the kitchen, for example?

Does it matter whether it goes with the kitchen if the lights are in a different room?

The kitchen will be partially visible from the entrance as the door will be removed and the wall above the door frame will be removed and squared off to make a full height opening in that space

Second light is the Umage asteria up light, this one is the Nordic style flush mount by Luna home decor, the wall lights are flush wall sconces, Beacon lighting have similar, light in the box, love the hallway sconces, you can get these from most lighting retailers in Australia. Great ambience.

The Umage light fitting is really nice but seems to only be available in overseas retailers. I don’t think I’d be able to get it installed here as I believe light fixtures need to meet Australian standards and be certified here for insurance purposes

Have a look at Litfad.com they do world wide shipping and comply with the voltage for each country, this one from IKEA would work with your brushed nickel. But it’s a personal choice and whatever gives you the look you are after for your home.

Don’t buy from Liftad. Quality is poor poor poor. And they aren’t Australian compliant, many electricians will refuse to install.

Hey bigreader, that’s good to know, it all looks good in print , why are they allowed to advertise on Australian sites, you would think there would be regulations in place if they aren’t compliant, there website is very misleading.
