When Hurricane Sandy hit, it flooded this basement with nearly 6 feet of water, so we started with a complete gut renovation. We added polished concrete floors and powder-coated stairs to withstand the test of time. A small kitchen area with chevron tile backsplash, glass shelving, and a custom hidden island/wine glass table provides prep room without sacrificing space. The living room features a cozy couch and ample seating, with the television set into the wall to minimize its footprint. A small bathroom offers convenience without getting in the way. Nestled between the living room and kitchen is a custom-built repurposed wine barrel turned into a wine bar - the perfect place for friends and family to visit. Photo by Chris Amaral.

The home’s contemporary décor stemmed from the homeowner's desire for a neutral palette and timeless interior with function and style that is also warm and welcoming. The design works well for entertaining friends and family. The sectional sofas allow ample seating for the family to enjoy each other’s company without overpowering the rooms. The fireplace in the family room was outdated red brick, oversized and damaged. We transformed the fireplace and essentially the room by scaling it down, adding additional square footage to the room, and installing a calacatta marble herringbone tile, providing a timeless, classic focal point. This ranch was a complete renovation! We took it down to the studs and redesigned the space for this young family. We opened up the main floor to create a large kitchen with two islands and seating for a crowd and a dining nook that looks out on the beautiful front yard. We created two seating areas, one for TV viewing and one for relaxing in front of the bar area. We added a new mudroom with lots of closed storage cabinets, a pantry with a sliding barn door and a powder room for guests. We raised the ceilings by a foot and added beams for definition of the spaces. We gave the whole home a unified feel using lots of white and grey throughout with pops of orange to keep it fun.
