The ceiling was covered in reclaimed wood. The floors are commercial grade vinyl. The dining room table is made from mesquite which is a native wood from South Texas. The stair railing in the background was made from mesquite branches cut on the property. The stone is an Arkansas Stone that was added in the remodel. Photography by Pam Fulcher. Traditional lines meets contemporary style in this updated eat-in kitchen. Pops of orange on the cabinets, chairs, pendant lamp, and striped feature wall as well as the red, circular tile backsplash bring modern-day touches to the otherwise traditional silhouettes found in the space. A bar in the wall cut-out adds extra seating. Photo by Chris Amaral.

To eliminate an inconsistent layout, we removed the wall dividing the dining room from the living room and added a polished brass and ebonized wood handrail to create a sweeping view into the living room. To highlight the family’s passion for reading, we created a beautiful library with custom shelves flanking a niche wallpapered with Flavor Paper’s bold Glow print with color-coded book spines to add pops of color. Tom Dixon pendant lights, acrylic chairs, and a geometric hide rug complete the look.

Contemporary Rustic Dining Table. What do you get when you combine a beautiful, thick organic slab with a contemporary base? You get a very unique urban or contemporary look. We call this style of furniture contemporary rustic furniture. Comtemporay rustic furniture may be an oxymoron, but it is rustic furniture yet it is also contemporary or modern. This table would fit in many urban decors as well as a timber frame home or log home. The wood species shown on this table design is solid black walnut crafted in northern Michigan. This table top is solid wood and the base is solid forged metal. The slab has an organic, live edge.
