Granite suggestion??

I have finally convinced hubby to get granite counters...yeah! (I have literally almost worn through the laminate in a few spots!). I am looking for something that will be lighter but still have the black/gray in it and have warmer aspects to it also so if I ever want to paint the house beige again I could. Suggestions? Btw, don't mind the mess or kids. Haha

Different showrooms will name their own granite so the same granite I name for you may not be the same name in your showroom. You could go to the MSI International website and look at both the granite and quartz options for an idea. The Quartz will look the same since it's mostly man made. Granite slabs will vary so it's best to go look at them in the showroom. https://www.msistone.com/granite-countertops/

It's always best to go to a granite yard and look at slabs in person. If you select a few, the workers can knock off a corner of the slab for you to bring home and see within your own home. Lighting is everything so make sure you bring home samples. I would recommend you not go to home depot or lowes as their samples do not represent the actual slabs well. Natural stone has variation and you need to see the slabs in person.

Could you put the laundry behind doors so that you won't see it with the walk through...by the way...I am just over the water in OZ, know what you mean by costs... will get some pics....this would be my option...just going on what you are saying.... The good thing about this is that you can shut the laundry away except for when you are washing...... I would have the washer with the dryer next to it if you can and put a bench over the top of the both of them....for this it is worth getting a front loader if you haven't already got one.. this will avoid the bench on the other side...it can all be contained and done on the one side of the laundry. Don't go for sliding doors ...the glass look great but they will need a bottom track and if they don't have one...they will move a lot....not great for this even though they look great. As for having the bench over the top of the washer and dryer, you can then have overhead shelving, does not need to be cupboards as the bifolds will hide what is in there...double cost other wise. hope this helps...Robyn

Hello Marcelle, I am an interior designer . I can tell you a simple inexpensive way to change the look of your kitchen. Looking at the photo you sent the different cabinet heights , and all the objects on the stove wall are very busy . Your modern house is wanting a cleaner , simple look. I would lower the small cabinets so that the top is at the same height as the others in the room. And put doors on , that will hide the clutter. Next I would do a tile backsplash above the stove , up to the same height. The whole kitchen will be pulled together by the continuous top line. There is a small light wood cabinet with baskets in the foreground . I would paint it white , or the same dark accent color of the cabinets you have. I don't think you would need to change the beams then , they would add interest and drama once everything else was subdued. Lisa

~$400 including expedited shipping. My GC just had his regular countertop guy do them, which wasn't great.... he had trouble making clean cuts. If I were going to do it again I would have pressed for someone with expertise to cut them. You can see in the image that the facing is not made of the stone peak, because too much was broken during the cutting to make the mitered edge. I'm a little bummed, but mostly pleased with the surface (which is the important part) thus far.

We got the IKEA shelves that are pictured in the butlers pantry photo I posted when we were on holiday in Melbourne, Australia. We don't have IKEA here in New Zealand! Hubby is going back over in May/June so will get him to get more of that sort of thing when there. We would pay about 4x the price for that sort of thing here in NZ. I need to work out what I will do now where the fridge was and there is the angle change (does that make sense?).

There's something called Gris Perla other things, that has a white background with black, gray, and tan spots (variable with slab a bit). Usually among the cheapest granites in most show rooms. Something like this:
(It reads a bit closer in person to the lightness in the second photo, but the others show the pattern and scale.)

Might be a perfect fit for your room and your future ambitions. But look at the samples and see what else might appeal -- no substitute for seeing things in person, and then you can bring home samples of the final candidates to compare with other finishes in your house.

If you look at quartz, LG Aria has the colors you mentioned. I have LG White Pearl (pics in my "my pics" idea book) and it also has similar colors, but not the black.

Consider Quartz. MSI iced white. Flecks of gray, beige and white. Looks great with white cabinets. Coordinates well with beige or gray.
