Our house is the one with the tree in front. We are planning to acid wash the brick to bring it back to its former flory, and update the paint colours using the colour combinations you see on the colour swatches but are unsure about the placement as yet. We have the last 2 options as inspiration but are undecided as yet. We also want to build a porch and arbor to the front door to add some architectural detail and show people to the front door. We are not pushing this building detail onto our neighbors, but we offered the arrangement of all painting should they wish to join us. The last photo shows the shared roof detail which we are unsure of what to do with?

I have attached a photo of a duplex near us. The one on left has been totally revitalised inside and out. In this example, however the driveway was not in the middle. I would ask your neighbour if you could paint the full roof front detail, at your expense. They will not see it from inside their home, and may appreciate the update.
Whatever you do, I would definitely communicate fully, what your plans are, so they feel, they are part of the changes, and they are not being left out of your decisions.

Thank you, the pictures help. We have communicated everything in detail and have a good relationship with them. They like the changes but maybe it is a money thing? The hardest thing is that we share a dual driveway, wall and architectural peak which is why it is hard to decide what to do and there are not many pictures out there to refer to. Maybe if the cost fits into our budget we might be able to offer that to them, otherwise I'm stuck with how to design it so we can split down the middle and have it not look odd.

Hi Kirsty, perhaps think about whether you might be better off prioritising your landscaping. I think this needs attention first. The exterior looks in pretty good condition.

Landscaping is on the list but we are adding building elements like a pathway and porch to the exterior so the landscaping will have to wait until this is complete.

The shared roof peak will look very odd if done in different colours.

I would definitely paint the detail on your side to give some definition to the diff properties. Your are on right track. If you stay with dark grey battens it will be a subtle change from their green side. Put a plant between garage doors too. Could dig out a bit of concrete or use a pot.

@Kate I think you may be right. Maybe if we paint our gable it might inspire them. That it's not such a scary change.

Perhaps you could speak to a real estate agent about the value this could potentially add to the property. Hopefully it comes out with you ahead and this might help sway your neighbours.

Take Dreamers photos as reference you could look to add a simple one colour fence between the garages, Because the driveway slopes towards the street the fence could have a step down that is either straight or sloping. This will help define the properties.
