I love the look of windows on the front facade of homes with protruding window frames. Is there a name for this? Is this part of the window installation or something that is added on? I have attached a photo as an example.
They are an edition to a window. Sadly too many are using them because they like the look of them rather than understanding their benefit in directing a view, shading a window, and where the window is pushed out from the house creating an internal shelf. They do frame the external view from within a room well. It is sad when they are placed badly and scoops cold winter air into a house (rather than capturing cool summer breeze) and when they block morning sun and open up to the western sun. They should, in good design not be even on all sides.
