We have finished renovations and I’m wondering whether we chose the best front porch light. We chose this traditional sconce but now I’m wondering whether a farmhouse style would look more effective?
The traditional sconce you chose is a little busy for my taste. I would probably choose something a bit simpler, especially as there seems to be a lot going on already with the wall hanging (is that a house number?) and the table setting below. That being said, it's not offensive, just very traditional . If you love it, keep it.
I don’t mind out light. It provides good light. I guess we are wondering what decade is our light? Our house is a 50s/60s house and we kept a lot of these retro features throughout the house so I guess we want more of a 50s/60s porch light.
It's not a must do. I think that the current sconce is a little too ornate/federation style for your lovely house. (Is it thirties/forties era?). Noone else is going to much notice it though, it's black, not overly large and definitely not offensive. So if you hate it, then it's probably worth doing, otherwise I'd leave it. The alternatives you picked out would definitely be more true to your house. Maybe no. 3?
