I would not put a hard stand of concrete. The tree roots will get under this and lift it. I would install paving bricks at the same level as driveway, a big enough area for a vehicle to park. Then Landscape around the pavers with low shrubs and flowers. You could use normal driveway pavers, but I would recommend permeable pavers, which will give drainage into soil.
gravel is easier but not maintenance free and i wonder if anyone can provide personal experience of the open DIY synthetic pavers used for grass driveways
With crushed rock and pea gravel the water would drain, however, you will have to keep the rock or gravel from getting all over the front yard and looking messy. You could build small 10cm retaining enclosures around the area.
