Design Dilemma Bedroom

how can I improve my built in wardrobe facade in the master?

last year

I would like to make our master bedroom wardrobe doors have a bit more interest than the white flat with SS handles that currently exist. One day we will change the floors to an engineered wood floor (probably a lighter oak in wide plank) and our current bedroom furniture is a dark maple stained wood.
Thinking gold/brass half circle handles and some paint? Any ideas are appreciated!

What are the other colours in the room ( curtains , bed spread , rug , any art , etc ? ) , and are you happy with them ? Are you quieter people , or more outgoing ?

Theres so many different things you could do , but you'd want to get the overall room looking consistent . The floors , as they are , look nice ; the handles are 1990's generic , and like you , I'd change , but even things like the other wall look a bit plain from the bit I can see . You may have art on that wall , but just what I can see i'd add a small picture there , and go to a hardware shop and look at handles and buy what YOU want , not what someone here says , or what a salesperson says is hot right now .

If you are thinking similar to me , as far as gold half circle handles , if you mean those ones maybe 200 x 100 and 30mm 'wide' curves -- they need to make a circle IMO , so they'd only work properly where there are 2 close to each other , up the 'middle' . Also , they feel more like what you'd have in a bank , or maybe a 3 1/2 star hotel . Just my thoughts . Oh , and they also feel a similar age / era as the ones there !

As far as colours , you could do a feature colour , or bold wallpaper , or leave it as it is ( if it's in okay condition ) . But just what I can see , I'd do the skirting and frames in a sharper white -- it looks like one bit has been done like that , but its not consistent .

So a bit of a non-answer , but on the info and photo , I wouldn't even want to guess what you should do .

Thanks for those ideas! The existing furniture in the room is a dark stained maple wood. It’s almost too big for the room - which is only 4.4 x 3.6
I have attached a photo of the floor plan as the room has two windows, one is higher up and the other is larger and takes up most of the back wall.
I have put some Ikea sheer curtains on that window and they make the space feel so much better
Perhaps I paint the walls and wardrobe doors the same white for consistency and change out the handles for now. We do plan on renovating the existing bathroom and linen closet adjacent into two baths to have an ensuite (entry to that from bedroom where the current bathtub is.

The house looks very livable. I love that you have concentrated on creating one nice bath with separate walk in shower and a windowed tub! Since you have already thought of it, I'm going to assume that the attic is for future expansion and cannot be adapted for use as the current "away room." We are also in the process of designing a small house, and we've designated our study as the "away room." Ours will open off the dining room. If you switched the locations of the Study and Bed 1 on the same side, you could put french doors or an extra wide door with etched or decorative glass from the hallway into the right hand corner of the study. This would give you a really long diagonal view through the lounge and out the french doors, and from the lounge through the study to the window at the far end... The study window should be increased in width to match the neighboring window in Bed 1, and it then becomes ripe for a small window seat, either a clip on bay bumping out, or a "built-in" bay using narrow built ins on either side. Or both: build "in" for now, putting file cabinet drawers under the window seat, and angled corner units in for storage, and add the bump out bay later when you know whether your offspring would prefer a really cute desk, or a window seat, or a bed nook. You would, alas, lose the door from Bed 1 into the bath.... but honestly, there are lot of doors into that bathroom already, and that one has substantial collision potential. It might be best to make the single access point that door from the laundry. Either a glass panel set high in the bath room doors or a transome would make it easy to tell when someone is in the loo. Other ideas would be to split the nook under the stairs, so that half the depth opens to the lounge, and the other half to Bed2... with the wall thickness, you probably get close to 600mm or 2' on each side. Add a deep bookcase or other built in, and you're easily at a depth that makes both spaces very tucked in. Lastly, if funds allow a shallow bay window over the kitchen sink would visually expand the kitchen, particularly if you could arrange it so that the counter runs right into the bay.

I think the first layout is fine. You might want to consider moving the door for the storage room of the master bedroom so that it opens into the hall. That way the kids can use it for overflow storage. Also, that hallway is big enough that I think it could hold a large armour, providing more closet space. (There's no need to sleep in the same room as your clothes, so long as they're not too far off.) Also, don't forget that while the drawing shows kids in double beds, this need not be the case, so there will be more room for furniture (dressers or whatever) in their rooms. Finally, that step to bedroom 4 will not be odd at all. I've seen it in other homes. It looks clumsy in the drawing but it isn't. What you'll see when you come up the stairs is a bedroom door on a slight diagonal. It's only an odd jagged step if you walk like a robot, in straight lines along the wall, which is what your eye is doing on the drawing but you won't do in real life.

I won't bother with lattice, barrels are partially obscured from the street by fencing and if I put it up I would have to work around the lattice in order to turn the valves for water. If I can just make better use of collected water I'll be happy. We are at the end of our growing season so I should be cleaning up the garden and putting it to bed for the winter, just can't seem to get motivated. We had our first frost last week. Usually, our average early frost date is 1 November. I got almost no produce from garden this year, but there is always next year. Chookchook2 I've seen some of those decorative metal panels and they are gorgeous, sure hope your budget will allow you to get some before too long. Most of our state has been on fire for a good part of the summer. The closest is across the river from us and they have been battling it for almost a month. Some friends have had to evacuate repeatedly. We've only been concerned once, a small grass fire on our side of the river on a day we had wind gusts up to 65mph. Fortunately, it was put out quickly. Australia and New Zealand have both sent firefighters to help with the blazes. I can't begin to tell you how appreciative we are. The closest fire was fought for almost a week by local volunteers only as there were no other resources available. They were all on other fires. The Army National Guard (reserve troops) were called out to help with support duties and for the first time ever the federal Department of Natural Resources (DNR) asked for civilian volunteers to help with non firefighting tasks, cutting fire breaks, moving supplies etc.

Just wanted to post the most recent plan that incorporates all of the suggestions that I have received from the very helpful people on the Internet! Changes made: - added an extra bathroom on far left of the house near kids bedrooms - changed the toilet/main bathroom to move the shower over to the toilet room so that we could have 2 separate kids showering at a time (without coming into our room - although that remains and option) - moved the door to the library so that it doesn't look into the toilets/bathroom - optimised the space in our bedroom by moving walk in closet and bathroom around. This modification even allowed us room for a tub in the bathroom a so thankful for that suggestion! Now we just have to find room in the budget lol Questions: - when you walk into a bathroom, do you prefer to walk into a shower (from the door) or into a toilet? What would you prefer visible from the door itself? Logically you are going to use a toilet 9 times out of 10 so you would think that should be there first, but there is something odd about walking past a door and just seeing a toilet there... Thoughts? - is there enough room in the 2 bathrooms we created by joining the toilet and main bathroom? Dimensions are 3m by 2m (roughly) and with a shower coming out about 1m and the vanity about 550mm, that leaves more or less 1.45m to walk around, surely sufficient? If there are any other suggestions or thoughts on what you would do if this was your home we would greatly appreciate the feedback. Thanks you all so much in advance!

How solid are the doors do you know ? Some are solid wood , some have cardboard honeycomb or similar .

Why I ask is heres a simple idea . Take handle 1 and 3 ( from the left , at stomach height ) , unscrew the bottom screw , spin the handle 180 degrees , see what it looks like . If it looks better ( you basically have a staggered look now ) , drill new holes to suit , and screw them tight . Cost -- 1 drill bit .

Hi, I woukd just keep in simple. leave the wardrobe doors white as they are & just replace the handles with something a bit more modern, maybe brass ones if you like. I have attached a photo to show you what i mean. Then paint the walls in a dark blue colour which will look lovely with your new oak floors. iI have attached some more photos as examples. A navy throw on the bed, some cushions with a pop

I forgot to say, make sure the skirting is painted in a white to match the white of your wardrobes. You could also paint the drawers you have in navy to match the walls or even mustard to tie in with some mustard bed cushions. Replace the drawer handles with brass ones too. If you have bedside lighrs these should have brass in them too to match the handles.
