The sketch below demonstrates the scenario that was the case of this particular project. There are a number of ways to handle removing walls with existing electrical. Always have a certified electrician do any relocation of electrical power.
The goal is always to maintain power in a safe way AND always keeping any junctions or joints in line accessible in a junction box for future work. It is unsafe and illegal to enclose junction boxes without some kind of accessibility (ie, they have to be properly wired in a junction box and can’t be dry-walled over hiding this joint point) In our example the junction box is fastened to a rafter in the attic and can be accessed via the attic space.
