Would You, Could You Actually Live Here ?
It's a wet Sunday here , I'm sort of doing some work haha , but really looking around some forums more than anything . And yes , my girlfriend is at work , so excuse my boredom .
I have just looked at the most expensive houses listed for sale here in New Zealand , and while they don't compare to the most expensive in Sydney or Melbourne , I actually wonder what life would actually be like living there ? I know that might sound a bit funny -- my country place is a few mil , but the most expensive places are all 6 or 8 times that !
There was the $40 million place in Queenstown that got mentioned 3 or 4 months back ( I posted some pictures , and someone else did too ) -- it looks amazing , the views are out of this world , the finish and everything is absolute top of the line -- but I actually think I'd be on edge living there to enjoy it !
There's several houses above $25 mil here in NZ ( most are in Auckland ) and again look brilliant , and are what I call 'magazine finish' , but I have my doubts about actually wanting to live in them . One is a character home , filled with antique furniture , but boy , the upkeep would be a full-time job !
This place looks to be around $25 mil , and is probably the only place out of the top 10 most expensive I'd feel comfortable in . What does everyone else think ?

12 months agoAt least this kitchen looks inviting -- a couple of the others looked cold and clinical , but also like you'd be too scared to use them .
Having said that , that ceiling looks a bit cottagey for a $25M approx house /

Comments (43)Now it's beginning to work! Luv the rug! A few more red showstoppers, and I luv the post about matting your family pic, and larger frame for it. Looks like you might be a bit uncomfortable with the great post idea of moving your sofa out into the room away from wall. If so, could you accept putting it diagonally from the entrance doorway, across that corner where it is, stopping at the edge of your window? That's a bit of a move outward, still can see the fp and tv, and show off your new rug, which could go diagonally in front of the sofa. Then, if you like that, after a while you could move it on out as Deb K suggests. Sometimes intermediate steps are more doable for us than those big changes.Same with painting; if you could first paint just the fp wall, then later paint other walls...seems some color would really make it more homey. Comments (29)I am planning to add scatter cushions and think if I do a pair of larger ones for each end so they go over the arms to creat height at each end, and a couple of smaller ones, I want to bring some colour in too. Comments (13)Kind of funny really how many people would feel exposed and would not want to use the bathroom. The more I think about it, it's a bit like a public restroom with stalls (as stall walls rarely go to the ceiling or floor and have the added issues of gaps between the wall panels and doors -- which thankfully we won't have!). Regarding the humidity control issue, I should have clarified this is only for a toilet and small hand basin (not a full bathroom with shower). The main room on the other side of the proposed toilet is our dog whelping room where we will have young litters of puppies (when we have them). Further down the hall, removed from this room, is our training room where there are likely to be other visitors but the proposed bathroom would be quite removed from that area. It would be wonderful to find more windows like the ones that are up near the ceiling! That would certainly solve the issue. Comments (6)I read an interesting comment somewhere, where a lady invited a group of her friends over to lovingly point out all the problems they saw (through fresh eyes) with her home on preparation for sale. She said she was surprised at marks and damage that she had lived with for so long she no longer noticed them. We "owner built" a home previously, and when we came to sell 7 years later, we painted the garage and did those jobs that we had put off, and it became sad to finally see her at her best, at the end, when we could have been living in a completely finished home all that time. I read about a lady who decluttered her home, had it professionally cleaned (build clean, or bond clean) and had a professional styler do her home and she realised just how nice it could be and decided not to sell. :) ta...See MoreUser
12 months agoThis is a different house ( obviously ) and is about 15kms away from us here in the Waikato -- this is what I think of when you say old money ! This is about $8 million too , so a relative bargain , right on the riverbank . I can't imagine myself living here though -- nice to look at , not my cup of tea style-wise though .
