I wouldn't put a rug on the lovely floor. It's a feature on its own. But put a mirror over the buffet.

Lovely home! In dining room i would just add colorful table runner and replace prints on wall with something more colorful and graphic. Your living room needs a coffee table with some color in vignette and the sofa needs colorful throw pillows using that lovely green in your lamps and adding a second jewel tone color. Easy fix!

Thanks everyone! I've been going around and around with the green lamps and whether or not to keep them there - I love the yellow/gray combo and I love those yellow lamps! Teal is an interesting thought though, going to have to play around with that!

I agree with art on the buffet table wall... Add identical lamps on both. Sides of buffer table too with a spotlight above for the art. Add an arch lamp and replace the white shade lamp at the back of the sofa. How about a coffee table like that in the picture?

In looking at your photos, I see the dark picture frames and love the way they pop with the lighter colors of the room. I'm thinking to stain the dining table and the buffet a dark espresso or black to contrast with the floor, chairs, couch, and walls to create a warmer, lively feel.

Then as others have suggested add bursts of bright color (like your lamps and vase) for your accents...pillows, throws, maybe curtains and living room rug. A glass top with dark wood base table to show off new rug and keep that space feeling open and spacious, as you do already have a lot of heavy furniture in the room.

The mirror in you living room would look fantastic over the buffet! A bright, colorful abstract painting in the living room. Would also suggest a matching set of curtains for the other window in the living room for balance and to create height. What about trying a plant in the corner where floor lamp is, as it seems a bit stark.
