Workshop at The Gardens
Finding and creating balance at the entrance of this architecturally designed ranch home was the goal of the landscape design.... a balance between the built environment and the natural.... a balance between the tended garden and the wild. Three deck units were added to gently transition between inside and out. The top deck section larger and detailed to match the house. Space enough to add seating and a welcoming meet & greet space. The two lower deck, same in size and detail, transition to the hand made clay paver walk. The paver walk gently curves out in both directions and make pedestrian flow seamless. The gardens near the home are well tended and become more naturalized as they radiate out into the surrounding woods. Peaceful afternoons can drift away sitting on the deck perfectly balanced between home and landscape...

A garden in an open, rural landscape shows several faces and stories. A multileveled wooded garden for summer parties in the cool of the forest. A small lake with floating wooden paths, which embrace sitting areas, a fireplace and an isle, from which one observes all different moods of nature. This garden is a romantic detail of Monets waterlilies, the light falling through the majestic trees, a piece of arcadia.

Formerly a problem front yard, I removed all the grass, enlarged the beds, and created a series of ponds and waterfalls on an "unusable" hill.

This property was covered with pink rock when our client called us. In an effort to be gentle on the environment, and to save money, the client took our suggestion to work with what they had by incorporating more contrasting rock to bring the property together in a cohesive design. The clients are active birders and wanted to grow their own food including vegetables and fruits. We worked with interior designer, Nikki Klugh, to select gorgeous furniture to compliment the design.
