The molded copper water basin gently spills into a rill that is lined with pebble glass tile to echo that of the main pool. The rill is equipped with LED lighting.

This is a wonderful lap pool that has a taste of modern with the clean lines and cement cabana that also has a flair of the rustic with wood beams and a hill country stone bench. The backyard for this prestigious Toronto home was sloping at the rear, so retaining walls were built to create a level area for the pool and deck. The simple elegant design features full-width entry steps, and at the deep end, an elevated Brazilian Ipe hardwood deck with lounge area. The pool's gray Armorcoat interior is framed by the Indiana limestone coping and deck. An adjoining cabana features a washroom and change room, while the pool equipment is discreetly hidden behind the shrubs at the back. (16 x 36, rectangular)

The center piece of the back yard was a rectangular swimming pool set on axis with the two rear balconies. The design included a dinning patio with a built in grill and a separate swimming pool patio. In order to connect the landscape to the house the walls were veneered with the same granite stone as the house. Lush gardens with shrub roses and hydrangea surround the swimming pool and patios. This project is located in Bergen County and was a collaboration with CLC Landscape Design. Bianchi's first effort was to paint the broad strokes that would set the theme for the exterior layout of the property, including the pool, patios, outdoor "bistro", and surrounding garden areas. The centerpiece of the backyard is a deck level vanishing edge pool flush in the foreground, strikingly simple and understatedly elegant in its first impression, though complex under the hood. The pool, built by Tyler Mathews of Natural Reflections Pools, seems to emerge from the ground as the deck terraces downward, exposing a wetted wall on the background. It is flanked by two mature ironwood trees anchored within stone planters on either side, that bookend the entire space. A singular monochromatic glass tile spa rises above the deck plane, shimmering in the sunlight, perfection wrought by Luke and Amy Denny of Alpentile, while three sets of three spillways send concentric ringlets across the mirrored plane of glassy water. Bianchi's landscape star Morgan Holt of EarthArt worked his magic throughout the property with his exquisite selection of specimen trees and plant materials, and above all, his most challenging feat, crafted a Michaelangeloesque cascading stair, reminiscent of that at the Laurentian Library, levitating and flowing down over the front water feature like a bridal train. This will be a project long enjoyed by the owners, and the team that created it.

This 22-year-old gunite pool needed a facelift. A nonfunctioning waterfall, uncomfortable spa and grass as its patio were the reasons the client called Bill Renter from the Deck & Patio Company of Huntington Station New York. The first step was to demolish the existing spa, waterfall, wood retaining wall and rock coping. Next, the new acrylic spa was installed. A seven foot high moss rock waterfall and boulder coping were installed beautify and retain the sloping woodland behind the pool. Because of the natural setting of the pool, careful consideration was given to the patio material. The designers suggested a tumbled pavingstone and wall system called techno-bloc. The colors of the patio were a blend of a tan color and a natural grey color to tie in with colors of the boulders used. The patio has the look of natural stone, but it is cool even on hot summer days and has the durability of a paver patio. This new technology in the paving and matching wall systems insures a lifetime of easy car for these surfaces.
